Winterising your garden sauna: the autumn checklist
What to do before winter: door seal, flue, stones, roof, water, path and log store. One autumn afternoon instead of a season full of problems.
Read →Building it yourself saves you the assembly fee. The real question is how much work and risk you are taking on in exchange, and whether you have someone to help, because a barrel sauna is not a one-person job.
Every part is cut, profiled and test-fitted at the workshop in Poland: staves, tensioning bands, end walls, door, benches and a step-by-step illustrated manual.
The stove is chosen and bought separately, so check what is and is not included in any quote you compare. The IP65 LED lighting set is an option; with assembly by our crew it is included in the assembly price.
Two adults with basic tools put a kit together in about two days the first time.
On your own it is very hard: the staves are long and heavy, and someone has to hold things while the bands are tightened.
You will need: a long spirit level (or laser), a cordless screwdriver, a hammer (a rubber mallet helps), a spanner for the bands and a stepladder.
An uneven base. This is the one mistake that can only be put right later by lifting the whole sauna.
Bands that are too loose: after one season gaps appear between the staves.
A flue without the required clearance to the timber. That is a fire-safety matter, so even if you do the rest yourself, use a qualified installer for the stove and flue.
A door hung the wrong way, opening inwards instead of outwards.
The supplier stands behind the materials, not behind your workmanship, so the assembly is your responsibility.
The first firing, which a crew would normally do and talk you through on the day.
Our kit arrives on a pallet of about 240 × 120 × 120 cm and roughly 800 kg, by haulier with a tail-lift to the kerb or driveway. Delivery to Lithuania is included in the kit price, and kits start from 2 090 €. Prices include 21% Lithuanian VAT.
You can build it yourself, ask a local tradesperson, or book our crew for an additional fee (from 1 390 €). The crew assembles the sauna, treats the wood and connects the stove.
